What we believe
What does CRBC believe?
Christ Reformed Baptist Church is a robustly confessional body of believers. We believe in the infallibility, total trustworthiness, and sufficiency of Scripture. We are Baptist in tradition, and we are also Biblical and Reformed in theology. This means that we hold unashamedly to the classical theology of the Protestant Reformation including the “doctrines of grace” or the five points of Calvinism (TULIP):
T-Total Depravity:
Sovereign grace needed
U-Unconditional
Election: Sovereign grace conceived
L-Limited
Atonement: Sovereign grace
merited
I-Irresistible Grace: Sovereign grace
applied
P-Perseverance of the Saints:
Sovereign grace preserved
What does “Reformed” mean?
This means that CRBC is committed to the classical doctrinal positions of the Protestant Reformation. Our Confession of Faith is the Second London Baptist Confession (1689). CRBC is the first and only explicitly “Reformed” Baptist congregation in Central Virginia and meets an urgent need for the Reformed Baptist witness in Central Virginia.
Is the church part of a denomination?
CRBC is an independent congregation. We do, however, believe in the importance of cooperation, accountability, and fellowship with like-minded churches. Therefore, we share in fellowship with sister churches. An example of this is our participation in a loose network of churches and ministers called the Reformed Baptist Fellowship of Virginia and our participation in its annual “Keach Conference.”
What does CRBC believe about the scriptures?
As the opening words of our confession state in its first chapter, "The Holy Scripture is the only sufficient, certain, and infallible rule of all saving knowledge, faith, and obedience...." Our church's doctrinal statement also affirms "The providential preservation of God's Word in the received or traditional text of Scripture. We shall prefer to make use of Bible translations based on the traditional text of Scripture in our public teaching and worship."
